Woman Shaves Head for Childhood Cancer Research

Cristina Santoriella, a brave mother of two young boys from Mahopac, traveled to San Antonio, Texas, over the weekend where she shaved her head for a cancer research fundraiser.

She helped raise money and awareness for childhood cancer after one of her sons, Jake, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in 2010.

Jake, who received a bone marrow transfer from his fraternal twin brother Chase, is now in remission and celebrated his second anniversary of being cancer free on Oct. 21, 2012.

The two boys, who wore red and blue capes, accompanied their mother on the trip. Chase also had his head shaved while his mother waited for her turn. She described the trip as "amazing and emotional."
