The Comeback Kids Seal the Deal; Second Wiffle Ball Tournament Lots of Fun

Congratulations to The Comeback Kids — Summer Softball Champions!

In the exciting finale to the 2013 Summer Softball season, the undefeated Comeback Kids won the Summer Softball Championship, triumphing over hard-driving opponents Fahgettaboutoutit by a score of 4 − 0. The Kids finished their inaugural season with an unbeaten 12 − 0 record.

Quoting The Comeback Kids manager: “The Comeback Kids did not need a comeback for the Championship game. Don’t be mislead that it was an easy game; the game was always in reach of Fahgettaboutit…Tom Jordan pitched his third shutout but it was mostly about great defense…with 4 double plays. Bob Zawacki lead the offense… with a 2 run homer in the second…

“Fahgettaboutit’s pitcher Ron Jabusch, and their excellent defense held the Kids to 4 runs...Umpire Joe Rosario as usual called a consistent and fair game…

“It was a fitting end to a great season.”

Fahgettaboutoutit captain Dave Balzano shared his thoughts: “We may not have won today, but we didn't beat ourselves either.  We played the type of solid defense that kept us in the game, and was our trademark that led to us being a winning team, capable of getting into a finals with The Comeback Kids…Our collective hats are off to The Comeback Kids for being such a dominant team [preserving] their perfect 12-0 record. [They] will be the team to beat next year…

“We received key contributions from EVERYBODY.  I'd rather not single out a single player, but…we all were particularly inspired by the return of Dave Rocco for bravely battling injury and being there at third base…Losing 4-0 to a team that averaged roughly 10 runs per game all year…is nothing to be ashamed of.  We had fun, and are glad that we were competitive in the finals.

“Are we going to lie down and give them any victories next year?  Fahgettaboutoutit!  Will we we back in a new improved, though a tad older team, and deeper roster next season.  You better believe it!”

Al Morales, President of YSA stated: “I would like to add my congratulations to The Comeback Kids for a great run and their undefeated season. Tom Jordan gets credit for the best overall draft. A fine  collection ballplayers and gentlemen.

“Thank you for contributing in making our inaugural season a success.”

Wiffle Ball Tournament and Home Run Derby

On Saturday we hosted our second Wiffle Ball Tournament and Home Run Derby. Bimmies BBC turned in a great game, winning the Wiffle Ball Tournament. Second place honors went to Thunder Gun Express, with third place awarded to NY Thrilliest.

The Home Run Derby came to an exciting finish with Erwin Delarosa and Gregory Phillips tied with 5 home runs at the end. They went on to a head-to-head round, and tied a second time with 2 home runs each! They then went on to another head-to-head round and Erwin won with 1 home run. Congratulations guys!

Everyone had a great time, and considering what a beautiful day it was to be outside playing ball, everyone went home a winner!
