Bye Week for Softball Leagues, But Lots Going On!

This was a bye week for the softball leagues in observance of Labor Day, but we have plenty of news about the new fall season starting this month.

Our fall softball season at Navajo Fields at the Yorktown Sports Complex will begin play during the weekend of September 28. We are planning to expand our offerings with games on Saturday and Sunday. We are offering adult open and 50+ divisions, and the 50+ division is expected to grow even stronger in the new season. We are looking forward to lots of great competition in our men’s and coed softball leagues.

We are especially excited to be introducing coed flag and touch football to Yorktown this season, offering open divisions for both flag and touch. Coed flag and touch football games are tons of fun, competitive, social and a great way to stay fit while enjoying the beautiful autumn days here in Westchester. Games will start the weekend of September 21.

Want to play, but don’t have a team? No problem. We are hosting free open scrimmages for softball and for touch and flag football. Come over to Navajo Fields on Saturday, September 7 for an open scrimmage for all 3 sports: softball, flag football and touch football. On September 15 we will hold an open scrimmage for flag and touch football, and on September 21 a final scrimmage for softball. There’s no fee to play in the scrimmages and all scrimmages begin at 10 AM. For more details on the scrimmages and all of our September activities, please see our website at http://ysaleagues.com.

On September 28, we are sponsoring a Wiffle Ball Tournament and Home Run Derby at Navajo Fields. The August tournament was a great time, and we are planning on increased participation in September. It’s an open tournament, with all ages welcome.

Finally, stop by the new Mulchaey Building at the Yorktown Grange Fair this weekend. We are sponsoring the flower exhibit, and congratulate our friends at the grange on the dedication of the new building in memory of Jerry Mulcahey. A professional horticulturist and Westchester County 4-H director for many years, Jerry had a huge impact on the lives of so many area residents. We are proud to sponsor this year’s exhibit in his building!

We are looking forward to resuming our season on Sunday, September 8 with the following games:
9:00 AM: Fahgettaboutit v. Who’s on First?
10:30 AM: The Comeback Kids v. I’d Hit That
