Yorktown Woman Installed as Rotary District Governor

On June 24, rotarians congratulated Helen Lynch on her installation as District Governor for Rotary District 7230.

The Rotary motto of "Service Above Self" could be easily said of the newly elected District Governor for Rotary District 7230, Helen Lynch.

Surrounded by supportive rotarians from the clubs within the district, she was installed at the Traveler's Rest restaurant last week.

"When I was told that I was chosen to be the District Governor," she said. "I was shocked."

Lynch has been an active and dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Yorktown since 1991. She said she was excited to assume the duties and responsibilities inherent to the role of District Governor.

The District Governor for Rotary District 7230 serves Westchester, Manhattan, Staten Island, the Bronx, and Bermuda. Lynch was congratulated as the guest of honor at the installation ceremony and reception on June 24. Town Clerk Alice Roker, who is also a member of the club, assumed the role of emcee for the night's festivities.

Lynch has a long list of accomplishments as a rotarian for the Rotary Club of Yorktown. She has served in a number of leadership roles and was the first recipient of the Yorktown Rotary's Service Award in 1992.

According to the Rotary Club of Yorktown's website, "rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world."

Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,000 clubs in 168 countries. Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. Rotary club members meet weekly and are non-political, non-religious, and open to all cultures and races.

Lynch's term of office begins on July 1 and will run for one year. Over the next five months, she said she plans to visit all 48 clubs that are within Rotary District 7230.

When asked about her goals as she assumes this new administrative and leadership role, Lynch said she will be striving towards creating a more cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship among the rotary clubs within Rotary District 7230.

"I hope to create a harmonious relationship among all the clubs," she said.
