Seaboldt said Community Help was founded in the 1960s to serve the families of Yorktown after local churches and other civic organizations pooled their resources to serve those in need.

The Yorktown Congress of Teachers (YCT) has had a long-standing relationship with the food pantry and co-sponsors the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Kennedy said "in light of these difficult times," members have felt they need to go further to extend support to the community. The YCT also provides financial support to two other local charities and provides scholarships to Yorktown graduates.

This will be the second "Tip a Teacher Night." Last year $5,000 was donated to the Food Pantry.

"It's a great benefit because Yorktown Community Help is an independent food pantry and we only serve Yorktown residents," said David Humphrey, one of the organization's board members. "The money allows us to buy food and keep our supplies so we can distribute each month."

The food pantry at the Yorktown Community Help is not affiliated with the Westchester Food Bank, unlike the other two food pantries in Yorktown, at the  and  which draw people from other towns.

Humphrey said the organization helps roughly about 60 Yorktown families, and that number increases to about 100 during the holiday season.

Lubic, a graduate, .

"I take pleasure in giving back to the community that has given me so much," he said.
