Support Connection's Kick off Events for Cancer Awareness Walk

., an independent non-profit organization that provides free, confidential support services to people affected by breast and ovarian cancer, is holding a number of events to launch registration for their Annual Support-A-Walk for breast and ovarian cancer.

"The Support-A-Walk Kickoff Breakfast" will be held on Saturday, July 16 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the North Westchester Restorative Therapy and Nursing Center, located on 3550 Lexington Ave. in Mohegan Lake. The event is free for anyone interested in learning more about Support Connection’s 17th Annual Support-A-Walk.

Guests will enjoy a buffet breakfast while learning everything they need to know about the Walk. Brochures, flyers and other materials will be distributed. There will be presentations from past participants on how to form teams and gather donations. Info will be provided about creating online fundraising pages for the Walk at www.firstgiving.com/supportconnection/Walk2011. Reservations are required. The second event, also to be held on July 16, is "Show Your Support Night," a night of minor league baseball with the Hudson Valley Renegades, which will begin at 7:05 p.m. (gates open 5:30 p.m.) at Dutchess Stadium, located at 1500 Route 9D in Wappingers Falls.

“Show Your Support Night” is a night of family fun and fundraising for a great cause," Director of Services and Communication Barbara Cervoni said. There will be fireworks after the game.

Support Connection staff and volunteers will be on hand with Walk materials. Tickets are $14 and to benefit Support Connection they must be purchased in advance. The 17th Annual Support-A-Walk is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011 at F.D.R. Park in Yorktown Heights. It is a 3-mile walkathon held each year to increase awareness about breast and ovarian cancer. Proceeds from Support-A-Walk directly fund Support Connection’s free, confidential breast and ovarian cancer support services.
