Kurt Gallagher Concert to Benefit Children's Room

The benefit concert will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. at the Yorktown Stage.

A fundraising concert with children’s musician Kurt Gallagher will be held on Sept. 17 at the  to benefit the Children's Room Makeover at the .

The Children’s Room, which caters to more than 8,500 children ranging from kindergarten to seventh grade as well as summer programs for 2,700 children (and caregivers), is in need of more space.

It’s been over twenty years since it has been updated and the Board of Trustees and the Friends of the Library are eager to invest in a makeover to "meet the needs of [the] younger population."

The Children's Room Makeover will include, among other things, reconfigured space that permits a larger children's program room, a self-checkout machine, reconfigured stacks to allow more natural light, a consolidated technology area, a spruced up "toddler area" along with new carpet, new fabric for the chairs and fresh paint. 

Of the total projected cost of $140,000, already $45,000 was received from a fund given four years ago by former Senator Vincent Leibell. The remaining $95,000 will be raised entirely through private donations and potential grants.

The library's new initiative is entitled Kids at Hart - Watch Us Grow" and will be funded primarily by donations from the general public. 

Tickets for the concert are $10 per child, $15 per adult. To purchase tickets contact Linda Gironda at girondal@optonline.net. They are also for sale at the library. 

The concert will be held at 3 p.m. at the Yorktown Stage, located at 1974 Commerce St. in Yorktown Heights.
