Honor a Loved One at Relay's Luminaria Ceremony on Friday

It's not too late to purchase bags for Relay for Life's Luminaria ceremony, which honors a loved one who has passed or is fighting the disease.

Thanks to Yorktown residents Jane McCarthy and Donna D’Andrea for sharing this news!  for detailed instructions on posting your own announcements on Patch.

The Relay for Life of Yorktown Event Committee would like to remind you that Relay For Life is Friday, June 8. The theme for 2012 is the Circle of Relay.

The Circles are the Caregivers – the unsung heroes who support our cancer patients, the Community – the people with “Purple Power,” the Sponsors – the businesses who just say 'Yes' by funding big and small events for Relay, the Survivors – our messengers of Hope and the Teams – our feet on the track.

When all the Circles of Relay are filled – We succeed!

The main objective of Relay is to raise money for cancer research and cancer patients, the event is held to spread awareness, celebrate the lives of survivors, remember those who lost their lives to cancer, and unite a community in the fight against cancer.

We would like to highlight the importance of the Luminaria ceremony. The Luminaria Ceremony is a time where ALL attendees are asked to gather, be reverent and remember those who have battled cancer. Luminaria bags are decorated and used to honor a loved one who has passed or is fighting the disease.

The bags can be purchased for $10 a bag at www.relayforlife.org/yorktownny. The bags are placed around the track and our Relay uses tuna as a way to weigh down the bags. The tuna will be used again this year and will be donated to food pantries who service Northern Westchester.

If you would like to donate a can of tuna, please contact Jane McCarthy at Janemc02@verizon.net or Monica Garrigan at Monica.Garrigan@cancer.org to learn about drop off locations in Yorktown.

Remember to join us on June 8, 2012 where we will Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back on the Jack Devito Field from 7 p.m. till 7 a.m. We look forward to seeing you there!
