FEMA reimburses town $927,000 for Sandy costs

Town gets $927,000 reimbursement from FEMA for Sandy; proposed east-west expansion of trail system to link Trailway with trails north of Route 202; 4 public hearings

1. FEMA reimbursement
The town has received $927,000 from FEMA as a reimbursement for Hurricane Sandy expenses.

a. Winery: Aaron Bock, joined by Tony Grasso, read an open letter to the Board from the Chamber of Commerce criticizing the May 7 vote not to advertise a public hearing on the wetlands permit, and Stewart Glass commended the three councilmen who voted not to hold the hearing.
 
b. Mohegan Lake: Ken Belfer, president of the Mohegan Lake Improvement District, asked the Board to look into the status of two culverts under Route 6 that may be blocking the outflow from the lake.  
 
c. Special district administrative fee: Susan Siegel, the person writing this summary, asked if the special district fee study that was supposed to be completed by July 1 had been completed, and if not, when taxpayers could expect it to be completed.  
 
d. FDR Trails grant. Jane Daniels, president of Friends of FDR Park, spoke about a proposed extension of the trail system that would link the North County Trailway, through FDR Park and to the trails north of Route 202.
 
3. Greenwood Street Bridge/wetlands permit
The culvert repair, required by the state DOT, is expected to cost about $200,000 and should take approximately 4-5 months to complete, although 2 months will be spent getting approvals. No road closures are anticipated.
 
4. Sanctuary Golf Club public hearing
The hearing on the amended site plan, that dates back to 1999, was adjourned pending follow up memos and site visits indicating that the applicant has addressed concerns raised by various town staffers and advisory boards.
 
5. Fieldstone Manor/Flexibility public hearing
The hearing to allow five additional condo units in the stone mansion was opened and closed but the Board reserved decision.
