Town Board Learns of New Garbage Provider and OKs TCO for Winery

Board plans to meet with new management team for Competition Carting; issues a TCO for Winery; says there's little Town can do to clean up Shrub Oak A&P shopping center site.

1. Garbage contract
It was revealed that a Mr. Joseph Spiezio III of R& S Waste Services will be taking over the management of Competition Carting, replacing Brian Amico. At the request of Councilman Bianco, Supervisor Grace will ask Mr. Spiezio to attend the Dec. 11 work session.
 
2. Department head benefits and salary increases
The Board discussed modifications in the benefits package for department heads and future raises.
 
3. Downed Trees
Supervisor Grace repeated Town policy that that it will pick up only bundled branches and logs less than 5” in diameter. Councilman Bianco said that he may try to work with his fellow councilmen to remove logs on private property for some homeowners who cannot do the work themselves.
 
4. Abandoned building at Shrub Oak A&P Shopping Center
A Shrub Oak resident complained about the condition of the abandoned building in the shopping center that once housed a tire company and that he said was a stain on the neighborhood. Supervisor Grace said there was little the Town could do to correct the situation, other than incentivizing the property to redevelop the site.
 
5. Winery
The Board approved a six month temporary certificate of occupancy for the Winery. Supervisor Grace said that the TCO could be extended if the work isn’t finished in 6 months.
