It was truly fun for all that attended the First Annual Yorktown Invitational Tournament. Between the softball, the food, the people and the great music provided and public address work done by Kevin T. Van Meter, it was a wonderful experience.

We'd also like to thank Ashley Robinson for her cooperation with the stats at Saturday's championship game:

Yorktown's softball squad held its First Annual Yorktown Invitational Tournament on Friday and Saturday at , coming in second to tournament champion Hendrick Hudson.

"I think it was a good experience for the girls from all the schools," Yorktown coach John McKenna said. "To get out on a Friday and a Saturday and play ball, I think that is a great thing. They were three great schools that came in Scarsdale, New Rochelle and Hen Hud. They are good teams and that is what you want to play against every time you play."

The Huskers had a chance to win the title when they played Hen Hud in the championship game. However, the Sailors jumped out to a 5-0 first-inning lead and didn't look back in a 10-0 triumph against the Huskers.

Yorktown's Ali O'Connell had a two-out double in the second inning, Amanda Bozentko (2 for 3) connected on a two-out single in the third and Nicole Wilson, who made the all-tournament team, had a lead-off base hit in the fourth but the Huskers just couldn't sustain anything against the Sailors.

"We played a great game yesterday (May 4) and just never got out of the gate today (May 5)," McKenna said. "It's the Jekyll and Hyde routine. That's been the story. We are the Jekyll and Hyde team. Some days we are giant killers, next day we just don't show up."

Yorktown won its opening-round game against Scarsdale by a score of 7-4. Yorktown was led by Lindsay Fedro, with a double, triple, RBI and two runs scored. Nicole Wilson had 2 RBI's and scored once. Gabi Rosen had an RBI and a run scored.

Ashley Robinson threw a complete game with 10 strikeouts to earn the win on the mound for the Huskers.

Scarsdale earned third place by defeating New Rochelle in the consolation game 6-4.
