Yorktown Students Recognized for Achievements

Students from 4th through 12th grade were recognized for their achievements in sports, music, arts and academics.

Yorktown school district students from the grades 4 through 12 were recognized for their achievements in arts, music, sports, academics and extra curriculum activities during the Board of Education meeting on Monday. 

The meeting was held at the auditorium where proud family members and friends filled it to near capacity. Students from the Mildred E. Strang Middle School, Yorktown High School and Crompond School were called on stage to shake hands with school administrators while everyone applauded. 

Yorktown High School valedictorian, Michelle Tomassi, and salutatorian Alex Trestyn were also recognized for their academic achievements.

Superintendent of School Ralph Napolitano said the meeting was important 

"It's wonderful to be present here," he said. "It's wonderful to see our students and to recognize them for all their contributions they make to the Yorktown Central School District and to their particular schools."

Principals and assistant principals from each school announced the names of each student that was recognized for the winter and spring season. 

After the student recognitions, school board members continued with their regular meeting. They accepted the creation of the Gwendolyn R. Farrell scholarship, , a Yorktown High School graduate, who passed away at the end of March. The $500 scholarship will be awarded every year, and nominees will be selected by the director of orchestra and members of the music department, officials said.
