Yorktown, Lakeland Schools Cancel After-School Activities Due To Potential Tornado

Due to the severe weather forecast issued for Monday, Oct. 7, all Yorktown and Lakeland school districts' after school activities, athletic games and practices have been canceled.

The National Weather Service warns that there's a risk of severe thunderstorms and even tornadoes in the Hudson Valley today.

The Yorktown Central School District issued this statement: "A series of intense storms, with very high winds, are forecast to be in our area later this afternoon. As a result, all after school and evening activities, including high school athletics, are cancelled today. All enrichment centers will remain open during regular after school hours. The Board of Education meeting will take place as scheduled at 7 p.m. tonight at the MESMS cafeteria."

Officials at Lakeland schools said PTA meetings, Continuing Education classes and Westchester Community College classes will still take place.
