Yorktown School District Easily Passes 2012-13 School Budget

The budget passed in Tuesday's vote.

The 's 2012-13 budget was overwhelmingly approved by the voters today.

According to District Clerk Rebecca Narvaez, it came in at 1,120 in favor and 502 against. The spending plan totals $92,175,000 with a  of 1.15 percent. It falls below the new state mandated property tax cap and is $908,000 below the cap allowance.

The budget, which includes  expenses, will raise taxes by 2.31 percent for the town of Yorktown taxpayers within the district, or the equivalent to $212.8 additional per year for the typical Yorktown homeowner, per $10,000 of assessed value.

Current  board members  and , , faced no opposition when taxpayers headed to the polls.

Carbone, president of the school board, was re-elected to her third-three year term.  in 2011 to fill the vacated seat by former trustee , was also elected and will begin her first three-year term.

"Despite the decreases in funding and the increases in mandates and tax certiorari expenses, this budget enables the district to maintain all of its current programs," Yorktown school district superintendent Dr. Ralph Napolitano . "It also supports the continuation of all district and building-level initiatives in curriculum, instruction, technology and student development."
