After 33 years teaching, of which 31 years were at Yorktown High School, Ursula Goldberg is retiring. But she said she plans on staying in town.

Goldberg is very much tied to Yorktown—having graduated from YHS herself—she will stay around to help both her kids and older family members. The business education teacher has taught elective courses since 1981 at the high school and looks back fondly on the experience.

Patch: How do you describe your experience in the Yorktown Central School District?

Ursula Goldberg: A former student and now a teacher, I have spent my entire life in this community. I benefited from the teaching and leadership of outstanding people and hope I’ve given at least a small part of that back.

Patch: What will you miss the most?

UG: The daily contact and professionalism of my colleagues in the Business Education Department was always positive and motivating. The students have also been a regular source of energy. They allow us to continue to feel young as we progress through our careers.

Patch: What are you looking forward to in retirement?

UG: I hope to spend considerably more time with family and friends, near and far. Hopefully, this will include some domestic and foreign travel. There are also so many attractions in our area that having more time will allow me to enjoy.

Patch: What are some of your wishes for the students and staff?

UG: These are difficult times for education. I urge everyone invested in that endeavor to focus on achieving their goals and to work hard encouraging the community to support what I believe is this most important public service.

Patch: A favorite quote?

UG: It is from an Igbo and Yoruba (Nigerian) proverb: “It takes a whole village to raise a child.”
