Lakeland Schools to Operate on One Hour Delay, Friday Nov. 4

All Lakeland schools will be operating on a one hour delay on Friday, Nov. 4. Buses will be picking students up at their normal stops wherever possible.

However, there are numerous areas within the district with low hanging branches and wires that will not permit buses to enter the road, officials said. 

If parents believe there is still a problem reaching their normal bus stop due to storm damage, they are advised to use the alternative bus stop, which was also used Thursday morning. At the end of the school day, they should plan on picking up their child at the same location.

District officials said they plan on returning to a normal school schedule on Monday, Nov. 7.

Lakeland schools were closed on Monday and Tuesday due to unsafe road conditions and operated on a one-hour delay Wednesday and Thursday. The school district has allocated five snow snow days and have now used two, according to the district communications director James VanDevelde.

If snow closings exceed those days, vacation days beginning with May 25 (the Friday before Memorial Day) will be taken away. After that, the days to be taken away would come from spring recess beginning with Monday, April 9, April 2, April 3 and April 4. 

Last year, the district used eight snow days, but VanDevelde called it an "unusual year," since the district has averaged between three and four snow days for the last 10 years.

The Yorktown school district will operate on a normal schedule on Monday.
