Lakeland Board of Education Appoints President and Vice President, Swears in Three Trustees

Lakeland Board of Education president Elizabeth Kogler, and Vice President Carol Ann Dobson were re-elected to their current positions last week.

Lakeland Board of Education president and vice presidents were re-elected to their current positions, and the three board members who were elected in May were sworn in last week. 

President Elizabeth Kogler, and Vice President Carol Ann Dobson were re-elected during Thursday’s board meeting. Board members Scott Carey, Michael Cherchia and Glen Malia were sworn into their positions.

Kogler was nominated by Carol Ann Dobson. Board members Glen Malia nominated Dobson for her position.

"[Kogler] has done an excellent job," Dobson said. "And I think she should continue doing that."

Lakeland board of education members unanimously voted each person into his and her position. There were no other nominations for president or vice president. Each president and vice president serves a 1-year term and board members are elected for three years.

After the nominations and swearing in of the board members, a moment of silence was observed for , the Walter Panas High School junior who . 

"This is just a tragic, tragic loss of life," Kogler said as she urged people, whether passengers in the back or front of the car to buckle up. Police said the young man was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
