During his battle with cancer, Kull was fortunate to have the support of his friends and family. However, he saw many families who were not so fortunate. The Matthew Kull Foundation for Healing Lymphomaa charitable organization, was established in his honor to provide support for cancer families in their own battles with the disease.

Each and every day there are patients who depend on the transfusion of red blood cells, platelets and plasma to stay alive. Organizing a blood drive can be a thoughtful way of honoring or remembering someone special within the school community.

Over the years, hundreds of blood drives have been dedicated to students, faculty and community members.

"Matty didn't survive, but he never felt alone in his battle," founders of the Matthew Kull Foundation write on their website. "All young lymphoma patients deserve that much. Please help us to help them!"

Here is what's posted on the Foundation's website as their mission:

Our mission, Matthew’s Mission, was born out of a mother-son promise to give back to other young cancer patients and their families all that had been given to us while undergoing treatments for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. We have experienced, firsthand, the difficulties of coping with lymphoma. Young people no matter how determined they are; lose motivation due to the uncertainty of a prognosis. If successive treatments fail, it becomes a constant battle to overcome pain and disappointment.
