David Byrnes Receives 2011 Gatorade District 2 Secondary School Athletic Trainer Recognition Award

The National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Secondary Schools Athletic Training Committee (SSATC) recently announced that David Byrnes, athletic trainer at , has been selected as the recipient of the 2011 Gatorade District 2 Secondary School Athletic Trainer Recognition Award.

This award reinforces the medical care that athletic trainers at the high schools perform. 

"Eight years ago, the Yorktown Central School District made the commitment to the safety of the student athletes on the schools’ teams by investing in the resources necessary to support an athletic trainer," said Fio Nardone, Yorktown High School Athletic Director. "Dave [Byrnes] has touched the lives of many of our kids, and we are proud of his work to educate, care for, and inspire the health, safety and accomplishments of our athletes."

Nominators cited Byrnes’ commitment to excellence, his commitment to the school and larger community, his professionalism and integrity. He was selected, in part, because of his constant willingness to go the extra mile, often at his own expense, to help athletes and community members in need of medical attention.

He is President of the Section One Athletic Trainers' Society and Treasurer of the New York State Athletic Trainers' Association. He receives a plaque acknowledging this award and a variety of Gatorade products.
