Original article: A busy day with a steady stream of voters is how polling inspectors in Yorktown described Election Day on Tuesday afternoon. Before polls opened at 6 a.m., a resident was waiting outside Town Hall to cast a vote, and at another point about a dozen people waited at the door to vote.

There were no problems reported at Yorktown Town Hall, while some machines at the French Hill school building had troubles reading the write-in votes, polling inspection Tom Travis told Patch.

Gloria Polcari, a Yorktown resident for the last 48 years, said that although she is a registered Democrat, she votes for each candidate individually.

"It's who is going to be best suited for the job," Polcari said. "They might not know everything, but they'll learn."

She said she wants elected officials to be held accountable and follow through on their promises.

"I like them to follow through with what they say they'll do and be here for the residents and not just for more business," she said. "Take care of what you have. I've been here for a long time."

Jim Gift, a registered Republican, said keeping taxes low is one of the most important issues for him. The 35-year long Yorktown resident and Army Veteran said it was important for him to exercise his right to vote on Tuesday.

"You get no right to complain if you don't vote," Gift said.
