Yorktown Supervisor Grace, Justice Lagonia and Legislator Testa to Seek Re-Election

Yorktown Republican Town Committee is expected to announce its first series of endorsements Wednesday night.

Yorktown Republican Town Committee members are expected to announce their endorsements of Yorktown Supervisor Michael Grace, Justice Sal Lagonia and County Legislator John Testa Wednesday night.

The three men are seeking re-election, according to Serafina Mastro, chairwoman of the Yorktown GOP.

"The candidates have earned the committee's endorsement by their firm commitment to paving the way for new businesses to open in Yorktown, delivering a historic local property tax cut and saving town taxpayers millions through increased local government and courthouse efficiencies and new taxpayer-friendly contracts," Mastro said in a statement.

Grace, Testa and Lagonia are expected to receive the endorsements on Wednesday at Murphy's Restaurant at 7:30 p.m.

Interviews for other offices will be conducted publicly in March, with further endorsements by the committee to follow in April, Mastro said.

Mastro said committee members welcome any interested candidates with the same beliefs of "smaller and more affordable government" to submit their resumes for consideration by Feb. 21.

All interested candidates are being asked to email a cover letter and resume to chair@yorktowngop.com or by mail to PO Box 252, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598. Any questions can be directed to Mastro at (914) 497-7460.

Wait a minute...the Republican Committee is making their endorsements tonight, but then in the next sentence it says. "Mastro said committee members welcome any interested candidates with the same beliefs of "smaller and more affordable government" to submit their resumes for considerationby Feb. 21." Why bother, the committee is already endorsing these 3 candidates. This is a joke and a mockery. You can't make an endorsement and then say, oh by the way if you think you are better please submit your name. How about holding off endorsements until you've given others the opportunity to present themselves to the committee. Sounds a bit like cronyism to me.

The Yorktown Republican Party is also seeking interested candidates for the offices of county legislator, town council and highway superintendent.

I thought that short of a major scandal, it's pretty normal for the party of an incumbent office holder to endorse if that person opts to run again, right? Obviously a primary has to happen and other registered republicans can challenge. Not sure how it works.

Not at all happy with Grace. He'll let contractors destroy so much of what we have loved about Yorktown up until now. Justice Lagonia is a good man. And, of course, held at Murphy's.... another good -ole' boy on the town board.
