Former Somers Supervisor Heads County Tax Commission: News Report

Mary Beth Murphy, who ran the Somers town government for 16 years, started work for Westchester County Feb. 18 as head of the Tax Commission, the Westchester Business Journal reported.

The Tax Commission is all about property taxes. While you can't go there to complain about yours, you can go there for access to town assessment rolls; historical tax rates; those complicated equalization rates used to compute school property taxes across several towns that share the same district; and other useful knowledge.

“I am pleased to appoint Mary Beth Murphy to this important position,” County Executive Robert Astorino said in a press release. “Her extensive experience combined with her diligence and her sense of service to the residents of Westchester County make her the ideal person to head this very complex office.”
