Cops: Man, 23, Leaves Scene of Accident, Found in Possession of Drugs

A 23-year-old Yonkers man is due in Yorktown Town Court later this month to answer charges of being in possession of drugs and leaving the scene of an accident, police said. 

Police said man left the scene of an accident that had occurred on Route 6, in the area of Sunnyside Avenue on Nov. 29. He had been driving eastbound on Route 6 when he struck a vehicle that was driven by a 44-year-old Putnam Valley resident. 

"[He] knowingly left the scene of the accident," Yorktown police said in a statement. 

The 44-year-old Putnam Valley resident, who suffered neck and back pain, followed the man's vehicle onto the Taconic State Parkway until both vehicles were stopped by police on the Route 202 exit ramp.

Police said the 23-year-old man was in possession of a small quantity of hallucinogenic mushrooms and marijuana. 

He was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, a misdemeanor; seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. 

THe man was released on $250 bail and scheduled to appear in Yorktown Town Court on Dec. 19.
