Former Lake Mohegan Fire Chief Norman F. Crookston Dies at 84

Norman F. Crookston of Shrub Oak passed away on Oct. 22. He was 84. 

Crookston was born in Shrub Oak on May 17, 1929 to Lawrence and Edna (Odell) Crookston. He was predeceased by his first wife Greta Krameisen on May 30, 1969.  He later married Susan Melo on Jan. 14, 1971.  

The man worked from 1946 to 1959 with his father and brother Stanley as a milkman for Van Cortlandt Dairy in Peekskill. From 1959 to retirement in 1999 Crookston worked as the sales and credit manager for Maue Oil Company in Ossining. 

He is a former commissioner, chief and a life member of the Lake Mohegan Fire Department. He was also a paid driver from 1954 to 1983.  

Crookston is survived by his beloved wife Susan, loving children Susan Barrett (Robert), Wayne Crookston (Laurie), Helen Zoppa (BJ), Julie Hogue (Robert), cherished sister Karen Huggins. Also survived by nine devoted grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his two brothers Stanley and Lawrence Richard Crookston. 

The Crookston family will receive friends at the Yorktown Funeral Home on Monday Oct. 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9pm. Religious service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at the United Methodist Church at Shrub Oak at 10 a.m. 

In lieu of flowers donations to the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated.
