Fulmar Gym Floor Is Easy on the Eye and the Feet

“It’s a lot softer, so you won’t get hurt!” said Fulmar Road Elementary School fifth-grader Joseph Colatruglio of the new gym floor installed recently. “And now that we have kindergartners in the building, that is especially important!” added fifth-grader Elena Ashnault, referring to the fact that, for the first time, Fulmar Road is home to kindergarten classes this year.

The new floor, made of a poured rubberized material, replaced the old one, made from vinyl composition tile, over the summer. It covers the expanse of the gym as well as the cafeteria.

“We chose this product because of the durability and the various usages of the gym/cafeteria,” said Mahopac’s Building Maintenance Supervisor John Wilson. “Safety was our main objective, and I believe we have achieved that by switching to our new floor.”

Physical education teacher Mimi Murphy couldn’t be happier about the floor for its safety and comfort.  “It’s so cushiony now,” Murphy said. “Before, on the old floor, the students could slide on it, but because the new floor is rubberized, they can’t, which is great.”

Other benefits of the new floor? “We really like the logo in the middle,” said Joseph, referring to the giant blue Mahopac School District M in the middle of the floor. “It’s true — we didn’t have that before!” added Elena. “It’s great!”
