Four Chaplains Ceremony to Honor WWII Heroes

Four local clergy will be assisting the American Legion Post 1009 to commemorate the selfless acts of four WWII chaplains that saved lives.  The chaplains gave up their life vests to soldiers as their ship sank, leaving themselves with no hope for survival.  The chaplains were Rabbi Alexander Goode, the Rev. George Fox, the Rev. Clark V. Poling and the Rev. John P. Washington, a Roman Catholic priest.

The local clergy participating in the ceremony are

  • Rev. Dan O'Brien, Calvary Bible Church
  • Msgr. Thomas Sandi, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
  • Rabbi Robert Weiner, Temple Beth Am
  • Mother Claire Woodley Aitchison, St. Mary's Episcopal Church

The event is open to the public and light refreshments will follow the ceremony.
