YUMC Annual Black History Month Celebration

We are pleased to have as our guest speaker, Rev. Ian Straker who is a gifted preacher and author.  Rev. Straker has completed seven years of service as the Assistant Professor of Church History at Howard University School of Divinity.  A native of Brooklyn, New York, he has been a clergy member of the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church since 1986.

Additionally, the group TransJazz will be our guest artist and will perform a few selections. TransJazz is a contemporary recording group aimed at using smooth jazz creatively for the glory of God. This intergenerational and interdenominational band has a unique style that is described as “Sade turned on to Jesus.”  TransJazz has performed with artists such as Meg Okura, Ron Brown, Ragan Whiteside and have done seven concerts with legendary singer Melba Moore.  Their latest CD is "New Day."
