Do You Know Someone who was Part of the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) in Yorktown?
Friends of FDR State Park seek help from anyone with onformation about Civilian COnservation Corps (CCC) in Yorktown Heights.
The 1930’s were a time of economic hardship for the American people. To restore hope and dignity to the unemployed, FDR started the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) as a way for men to join a ‘peacetime’ army acquire useful skills and protect and develop our endangered natural resources.
From 1935 through 1942, FDR Park (Mohansic Park) housed a proud group of CCC men. Unlike most other camps, our CCC camp was composed of World War I veterans. Suffering from the scars of war and unable to get jobs, these men worked together to develop our park. In turn, they gained the inner strength, stability and comradeship to sustain them till America’s economy got back on its feet .
The Friends of FDR Park in Yorktown Heights are looking for people who may have information on this camp. These CCC veterans did take part in community activities in Yorktown and Peekskill (1935- 1942).
