Yorktown's Laura Anderson Earns Gold Award

She raised close to $2,000 to purchase supplies to build an iron fence at Rosary Hill Home for terminally ill cancer patients.

Laura Anderson, a member of Troop 2860, completed her Girl Scout Gold Award before heading off to Notre Dame this summer.

For her project, she raised close to $2,000 to purchase supplies to build a wrought iron fence at Rosary Hill Home for terminally ill cancer patients. Many of the patients find great joy in caring for the vegetable plants in a small garden on the Rosary Hill property.

The existing fence was falling down and was very dangerous, so I picked out a wrought iron fence and arbor gate to beautify the space and make it safe for the residents," Anderson said. "My father, mother, brother,  friends, and myself spent a few days installing the fence and cementing it into the ground so it would be a lasting feature at the Rosary Hill Home. It turned out beautiful!"

She called her project "A Rustic Garden at Rosary Hill." Her troop leader was Federica DeAcutis.
