Yorktown Christmas Tree Lighting and Santa Appearance on Dec. 1

The First Annual Holiday Lights Parade will be held on Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. There will be a special appearance by Santa at the end of the parade.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Yorktown.

The town of Yorktown Parks and Recreation Department along with the Yorktown Heights Fire Company will host its First Annual Holiday Lights Parade on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.

There will be a special appearance by Santa at the end of the parade.

The parade will start at Town Hall's municipal parking lot located at 363 Underhill Avenue, then make a right onto Underhill Avenue and continue to the Yorktown Height fire house station. The parade will then make a left onto Commerce Street and a right onto Veteran’s Road where it will end at the Jack DeVito Memorial Field behind the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center.

The town of Yorktown will continue its festivities with the lighting of the Christmas tree, holiday singing by the Lakeland and Yorktown Girl Scouts and with the movie "The Santa Clause" sponsored by the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce.

A new community service award, which was established in memory of Yorktown's beloved Randy Zapakin, will be given to the Yorktown Girl Scout troops during the Holiday Lights Parade Spectacular.

Residents are being asked to bring a boxed or canned non-perishable food items to be donated to food pantries. Clothing donations will also be accepted.

For more information, call the Yorktown Parks and Recreation Department at 914-245-4650.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
