Pumpkin Decorating at the Library, Fire Districts' Budget Hearing, Drop off Winter Clothing in Somers

Here are five things you need to know today, Oct. 16.

1. Pumpkin Decorating at the Library

Registration for the John C. Hart Memorial Library's pumpkin decorating program is in full swing. It is available to children ages 3 and up with caregiver. It will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. You can bring a pumpkin, and the library will provide the decorations.

3. Yorktown Town Board Meeting

Yorktown town board members will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the John C. Hart Memorial Library. Click here for the agenda. 

4. Fire Districts's Budget Hearing

Lake Mohegan: The proposed budget of the Lake Mohegan Fire District, covering Yorktown and Cortlandt, will be presented today at 7 p.m. at the Jefferson Valley fire station, located on Lee Boulevard. 

Yorktown: The Yorktown Heights Board of Fire Commissioners will be holding a public hearing for the 2013 budget, on Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. at Station #2, located at 793 Locksley Road in Yorktown Heights.

Golden's Bridge: The public hearing will be held on Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. at the fire house, located at Rt. 138 in Golden's Bridge. 

5. Donations Needed for Winter Clothing

The Montrose and Castle Point Veterans facilities are looking for donations of gently used winter clothing for men and women.(There are many more women now than in the past)The donations are for permanent residents of the hospitals;Homeless veterans andVeterans who are just starting out.

Items needed include jackets, coats, sweaters, hats, gloves, long johns, sweat suits, shoes and sneakers. You may drop them in the box marked for "Donations" at the Somers Town House (Elephant Hotel), located at 335 Route 202, Somers.
