Client in training, the road to the show!

Everyday Jeanette Fischetto, owner of Dynamic Pulse Fitness, trains her clients to be their best, and reach for goals they never thought possible.

Although all of her clients accomplish their goals with determination and dedication, one standout trainee is Ashley Hertzel. She’s a 24-year-old, Putnam Valley native and not only did she change her life by taking the first step into Jeanette’s studio with the goal to return to a pre-college weight, she’s now preparing for an ultimate fitness goal, a figure competition.

“What sparked me into wanting to do the show was Jeanette saying I should, and that I can do it,” she remembered.

After a few months of working out at Dynamic Pulse Fitness on Rt. 202, “I said, ‘You know what Jeanette, let’s do this,’” said Ashley, in regards to the competition. “I feel much stronger, I’m actually starting to get muscle definition more so than I’ve ever had in my life which is really encouraging.”

Ashley started working out with Jeanette in January and then a month later decided she was going to commit to train for a show. Preparing for an International Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (INBF) show in fall, Ashley trains with Jeanette four times a week and does cardio on her own twice a week and seeing the results is totally worth the hard work.

“My self confidence has really gone up,” she said.  “Since I started I’m feeling better about myself, I was always kind of quiet and a little conservative and I feel like now I’m a bit more outgoing, it just makes me feel good.”

She will be entering in an open class competition; a specific competition for people that have never competed or have never won a show. Although Ashley has had an increase in confidence and motivation, she says her life has been consumed by training and there are few things she misses.

“Chocolate and ice cream are definitely my weakness,” she said. However, she knows the consequences if she gives in.  “I look at a piece of cake and I think that’s another week in the gym that I have to kick my butt for.”

Jeanette is extremely proud of Ashley and knows that she’s learned a lot throughout this experience. “It’s not just about coming in to the studio and eating right and it’s a real commitment,” she said.

Jeanette a professional bodybuilder herself, is excited for Ashley, and has full confidence that she’ll win or at least place. “I’m going to make sure that when she gets up on that stage she’s going to look fantastic,” she said.

Even though Ashley is in training, and how she looks does matter, how she feels from being fit is her favorite perk of it all. Because of her increase in self-confidence, motivation and discipline, there’s no way she’ll go back to her pre-training mentality. One of her favorite fitness phrases is, “if it doesn’t challenge you it won’t change you.”

For anyone looking to start a workout regiment either in intense training or just working out to be healthier, Ashley says a positive attitude is a must.

“You get what you put into it,” she said.  “Nobody can change your body but yourself, so once you start making actions towards that, you’re only going to feel better about it because you know you’re being proactive towards being better.”

What’s helped Ashley get through this process, is not only her increasing physical strength but her mental strength, knowing that she is her biggest motivator.

“If I wasn’t doing this for myself there’s no way I could be at this point. You have to want to do it for yourself,” she said.
