Not Just A Smile.....

I recently finished a book on body language. Although I thought I was already knowledgeable about the effects of it, I was fascinated to learn there is so much more nonverbal communication that actually occurs!  In fact, this type of communication contributes the most significant content in an exchange between people.  The conversation is almost secondary.

Smiling is one of the most powerful forms of nonverbal communication. Depending upon who you reference, psychologists have classified between 6 and 19 different types of smiles that fall into 2 main categories:  Polite, social smiles and Genuine Happy smiles.   Only the genuine smile activates the muscles on both sides of the mouth and eyes.  Polite smiles commonly referred to as "forced or fake" only involve the mouth muscles.

When we smile at others it sends a message of trust and good will, showing that we are open and approachable.  The eyes may be the window to the soul, but the smile is the world's window to you!

Another amazing fact about smiling is that the act of smiling activates the pleasure center in the left frontal cortex of the brain.    Even when a person isn't feeling happy, the act of smiling genuinely and often can elevate your mood!  Likewise, when we see another person smile at us, it activates positive feelings in ourselves, and makes us want to respond similarly.

When a person is not happy with their teeth, it makes it hard to smile.  This is harmful to their self worth and self esteem which is critically important at any age.  Personal success is linked to how we feel about ourselves.  If you feel like a "4" out of "10", then you most likely will not reach your true potential in life.

I have been fortunate enough throughout my career to witness personality transformations once I have completed a patient's orthodontic care.  It is a wonderful feeling to see a genuine smile- a reflection of inner joy that emerges when one is at peace with themselves.

Your dental appearance is influenced by not only the alignment of your teeth, but also their whiteness.  I only recently came to fully appreciate this when I removed my daughter's braces, and after a few days of professional whitening, saw a wonderful change; Whitening the teeth adds vibrancy to the smile that you have to see to believe!

After much research, I have recently added an excellent whitening system to my list of services that truly works! There are no gooey impressions to be taken or hour long office visits. The convenient pre-packaged, pre-sealed trays can be used in the comfort of your own home! Unlike over the counter "Whitening Strips", this product only takes 15-20 minutes to work. This means whiter, brighter teeth in less time!

It has been written that laughter is a smile exploding!  Live, Laugh and most of all SMILE! I love my work.
