You Said It: 'Maybe With New Blood Something Good Will be Done'

News that a new general manager has been appointed at the Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown sparked the conversation among Patch readers last month. (Read the article here.)

The newly appointed Rob Luciano, a White Plains resident, will oversee Jefferson Valley Mall’s operations, security, marketing and budget functions. As part of his new role, he will also be responsible for forging mutually beneficial partnerships with the Yorktown-area business community as well as maintaining positive retailer to landlord relations in an effort to further advance the initiatives of the center.

One person commented on the article to say that the mall needs to be expanded to include more upscale stores. Another person spoke in favor of a "mall makeover" and expressed hope that the new general manager might make a difference.

"Maybe with new blood something good will be done," the person said.

Bob Kochan wrote he thinks an Apple store would draw a bigger crowd to the mall. Another person said a movie theater would be a great addition. While Bob Edwards wrote he didn't think there any stores that would want to come to Yorktown.

"The environment in town is anti-quality retailers," he wrote. "A small group of very vocal residents do not want any sort of development in Yorktown. Just look at all the problems they are creating for Costco. Yorktown will never be a top retail destination as long as a small wealthy minority have their way."

Another reader said the mall is too small to attract visitors and be competitive with other shopping malls.

"They need to get something to come in that will draw people," a person who goes by the name Bill wrote. "If Buca Di Beppo really does open, that could bring in crowds, and that in turn could make the mall more attractive to other merchants."
