Yorktown Smart Growth Group Supports Local Businesses Through Cash Mob Events

A group of local residents and members of Yorktown Smart Growth have launched Cash Mob events to support Yorktown's small businesses.  

The first Cash Mob event kicked off on July 20 at Kirby’s Grill & Bar on Kear Street. A special tasting of their most popular southern style dishes included homemade potato chips, BBQ ribs, BBQ chicken, wings, pulled pork sliders, corn nuggets and salad.

"It was a huge success," said Jennie Sunshine, co-chair of the Yorktown Smart Growth Business Outreach Committee and board member. "Many attendees had never been to Kirby’s before even though it has been in business for three years.  It is clearly a gem that everyone in town might like to know about.” 

Yorktown Smart Growth plans to hold Cash Mob events throughout the year to support small businesses in town.  

Bob Giordano, the other co-chair of the Yorktown Smart Growth Business Outreach Committee and board member said that local small businesses are the foundation of the community.  

"They represent the town’s future," Giordano said. "We need to show our appreciation for all they do for our community by patronizing them. Such businesses give back more to the community than national chains and big box stores."

Sunshine said if a new business or an existing one – located in one of Yorktown’s five business hamlets (Crompond, Jefferson Valley, Mohegan Lake, Shrub Oak, Yorktown Heights) – would like help attracting more customers, they can contact Yorktown Smart Growth. 

"We will be happy to consider your business for a future cash mob event," Sunshine said. "Yorktown Smart Growth is a group of local residents who volunteer their time to help support Yorktown’s small businesses and give the people of Yorktown a voice in shaping the town’s future development."
