Residents Want Costco in Yorktown [Video]

The video was made during this year's Yorktown Festival and Street Fair.

Created by Citizens for a Progressive Yorktown and titled "I Love Costco," the video shows Yorktown business owners and residents speaking in favor of the proposed 151,092-square-foot Costco store in Yorktown.

Costco is proposed to be located at the northwest corner of the intersection of Route 202 and the Taconic State Parkway in Yorktown. The property includes the site of an abandoned motel, which residents have described as an eye-sore.

The public hearing will be held on Monday, Oct. 15 at the Nutrition Center room in the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center.

you got to be kidding !!! Can you get out of you street? (i can't) The traffic is so bad, the town can't even fix the dangerous traffic conditions at Triangle corner (202 & 35) cars can't enter onto 35 from Maple Hill St.,.A&P shopping center,Brookside & all surrounding driveways. There have been accidents & near misses . Can you image the terrible traffic conditions with the influx of more cars.

I would welcome Costco but not at this location. Traffic is tough in this area as it is. Can't imagine how it will improve as supporters would lead you to believe. Why not replace BJ's? What kind of town is Yorktown looking to create? Walmart and The Cortlandt Town center hasn't exactly made Cortlandt and Mohegan Lake a better place to live or the real estate values increase in those communities has it? Be careful what you ask for or we might just end up with a trickle down effect you haven't really thought out!

baddabing Here we go again the the naysayers want every thing to be a park. Yorktown has enough parks. This is a perfect spot right off the highway for this store. It will provide competition, tax relief which we so desperately need, jobs for people who want and need them even though you may not need one or do not have to work, cheaper gas for those who commute but taxable property is the most important. You appear to miss the point that the state not proactive in making improvements, it reacts to where improvents are needed. Examples Pepsico built in Bedford, low and behold the intersection of rt 100 and rt 35 got improved and is great now. Yorktown didn't want the Cortlandt town center, route 6 got improved in cortlandt while Yorkown suffers through the traffic on Lexington Ave and Route 6 and receives no no no taxes for it. So where did that get us. I've lived in this town for thirty years and am tired of this small group of citizens controlling the town board and the way this town functions. They are short sited and all must be sit at home all day.
