Zombies, Warewolves, and Ghosts at Somerston Manor Welcome Treat or Treaters

For years the house has attracted thousands of trick or treaters in Yorktown. Is there a scary home on your block? Do your spooky decorations draw crowds on Halloween? Tell us in the comments.

Ghosts, zombies, warewolves and even Charlie Sheen will be scaring trick-or-treaters on Halloween at the "Somerston Manor" in Yorktown.

As trick-or-treaters walk down a spooky and smokey path, they will walk by a man in an electric chair, a grandma in a rocking chair, graveyard of pumpkins, and by the "phyichiatric hospital" door built by the garage.

For the past nine years, the Pizzarello family has attracted thousands of trick-or-treaters to the neighborhood. It all started when Dominick Pizzarello put strobe lights, a ghost, and tomb stones and received compliments from his neighbors.

"It grew with everyone's excitement," his wife Angela said, who added that he has built all the props himself.

Dominick Pizzarello, who lives on Somerston Road with his wife and two young children, said what he loves most about Halloween is the reaction he sees on the kids' faces when they come to trick-or-treat at their home.

While some kids are scared to get too close, for years the house has been flocked by kids and their parents dressed in costumes. Check out "Somerston Manor"s Facebook page.

Lou Grippo, a student, who was riding his bike with another friend along the street, stopped by the house on Friday to watch Pizzarello finish setting up. Several other people in the neighborhood also slowed down to watch and even take some pictures.

"I think it's nice, it takes a lot of work," Lou said and called the house "original."

New this year is a warewolf and a reaper holding a "man" with a Charlie Sheen mask on. Pizzarello, who works as a janitorial salesman, said he wanted to make fun of the celebrity and thought the parents would "get a good laugh" out of it.

Pizzarello said he starts setting up the first week of October and even kids from the neighborhood help him set up. This year he is using a computer to time when the zombies and ghosts would start to move and make sounds so that people focus on one thing at a time and fully enjoy his creation.

"One of the big highlights is getting to work with my dad," said Pizzarello, whose father helped with his Halloween-ready home.
