Somers Library: It's Free Library Card Sign-up Month

From the Somers Library:

The month of September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Somers Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that students have the most important school supply of all – a free library card.

Resources at the Somers Library are available to anyone who has a library card. Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and services that support academic achievement.

Some examples of programs available at the library include toddler and preschool story times, book clubs for grades K-12, chess club, Magic the Gathering Club,  gaming club, anime club, teen advisory group, reading to therapy dogs, book buddies and more.

Students can use their library cards from home, too. The library offers access to important educational resources, like online reference and research newspapers and magazines, downloadable books and music, and links to homework help.

“Our library provides students with the tools they need to succeed,” Library Director Pat Miller Library Director said. "We provide students with exciting and engaging programs that make learning fun and resources that they can access from the library or from home – all with a free library card. It is for these reasons that a library card is the most important school supply of all."

As an added incentive, those signing up for a new library card during September will receive a discount coupon that can be used at the Reis Park concession stand. See a staff member at the Library Circulation Desk for details.

For more information about how to sign up for a library card, visit the Somers Library in person or visit the library online at www.somerslibrary.org.

Under the website tab “Using the Library” look for the library card application which you can print, fill out, and bring with your proof of Somers residency (driver’s license, utility bill) to the library where a business-sized library card or key fob will be issued.
