Seasonal Employment Opportunities; Share-A-Valentine Begins; Tasting Event

1. Yorktown Parks and Recreation Department Seasonal Employment Opportunities

Summer is a few months ago, but the department has already posted its employment opporunities including:

• Summer Camp Positions
• Lifeguard Positions
• Seasonal Positions

2. Share-A-Valentine Begins

Children ages 3 and up can enjoy the gift of giving when they create their own valentines to be presented to various seniors in Yorktown and near-by areas. You can submit your valentine to the Yorktown Recreation Office between Jan. 7 and Feb. 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Name, address, age and school may be included on the back of the valentine. Each child will receive a candy valentine for his/her participation.

3. Tasting Event for Yorktown Schools

Mark your calendars. The Foundation for Excellence in Yorktown Education will hold its fourth annual Tasting Event on Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Peter Pratt's Inn in Yorktown. Visit the Foundation's website for more information. 

4. Former County Executive Andrew O'Rourke Dies

O'Rourke, 79, passed away Thursday night (Jan. 3) at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. According to O'Rourke's biography, his achievements also included helping to create Croton Point Park out of a former dump. O'Rourke was the 6th county executive, from 1983 to 1997. Click here for more information.
