Parents for a Common Cause; 'Rescued' Restaurant; Snow Days

1) Members of the District Parents’ Council (DPC) of the Lakeland Central School District have launched Parents for a Common Cause, an organization created with the goal of educating parents about Common Core while providing them with a voice in the discussion.  They will hold a meeting at Lakeland High School on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m., which will provide information to parents about the Common Core Standards, Curriculum and Assessments, and explain how they can bring their voice into the discussion. Read more about it here.

2) An article about a Yorktown restaurant "rescued" by a Food Network show was the most read post on Hudson Valley Patch sites yesterday.

3) WFAS—FM 103.9 and AM 1230—has long been the go-to place for weather-related delays and closings. They share their storm center with Channel 12. Check back later this morning with Patch for an article on how many snow days Yorktown, Lakeland and Somers school districts have allotted.

4) A user's complaint about a local high school principal has spawned a community discussion about truth, lies and anonymity on the Internet, and a letter to parents from the school superintendent.

5) Wednesday is expected to be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 36, according to the National Weather Service.
