Lakeland Superintendent on School Closings; Pipeline Project Forum

1) Lakeland Schools Superintendent has issued the following statement on school closings:

"As winter approaches, we face the possibility of school closings and delays. Safety of students and staff will always be our top priority in our decisions. The best weather resources will be utilized, and conference calls with surrounding districts will ensure consistency when possible.

Please keep in mind, Lakeland covers 40 square miles with some difficult terrain. While the roads or weather conditions in your neighborhood may not look hazardous, the other side of the district may be experiencing harsh and dangerous conditions. Hence, our weather-related decisions are districtwide decisions. We will continue to notify you as quickly as possible when a closing or delay decision is made, and use many avenues to communicate it to you, including all-calls, website, Facebook, television and radio."

2) A forum on a proposed gas pipeline expansion project, that will affect the Yorktown and Somers area, will be held at Hendrick Hudson Library on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. More details here.
