One Lane on the AMVETS Bridge Opens Tonight

Both lanes will open Wednesday morning. To allow for the striping and final preparations, the DOT will be conducting lane closures on the Taconic State Parkway.

State officials announced this morning that more than a month ahead of schedule the northbound Taconic State Parkway bridge, known as the AMVETS bridge, will reopen to traffic.

To allow for the striping and final preparations, the New York State Department of Transportation will be conducting lane closures on the Taconic State Parkway between State Route 100/133 and Underhill Avenue. Both Yorktown and New Castle are affected.

According to a press release sent by DOT this afternoon, those closures are as follows:

  • Northbound: Tuesday night, Oct. 2, from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.
  • Southbound: Wednesday, Oct. 3 to Friday, Oct. 5 and again on Tuesday, Oct. 9 to Thursday, Oct. 11, nightly from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the work area and pay particular attention to all traffic control devices, including variable message signs, work zone signs and flaggers.

Susan Stepp, spokesperson for the Department of Transportation, said one lane on the AMVETS bridge will be open by 8 p.m. this evening. Both lanes will be open by tomorrow morning.
