Yorktown Police Fight Porch Fire

The occupants of the house weren't aware the porch was ablaze until the fire was extinguished.

Hanover Street residents were alerted by two Yorktown police officers that the front porch of their home was on fire Monday afternoon, police said today.

Police officer Brian Nicholson saw the fire at 1894 Hanover Street while he was driving through the area. He immediately pulled into the driveway of the residence, took out his fire extinguisher and began putting out most of the fire on the front porch.

When the second police officer, Mark Rapisarda, came both men knocked on the windows and doors to notify the home's occupants. The residents safely escaped the home, police said.
