The school is named after Mildred E. Strang who was a teacher, principal and chief administrator of the Yorktown…More School System. She was born in 1904 and grew up in Yorktown when it was mainly farms. </p> <p>The school was built specifically for middle school students and currently caters to sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. It was named after Mildred when it opened in 1969, just upon her retirement after 40 years of service in the Yorktown Schools. </p> <p>Mildred E.
