These people were obviously not offered one miiiiiilllllion dollars to build fields next to aRead More pigging station to clean out the pipeline all for only an acre of parkland and use of a dozen or two acres for a few years while they build this sucker. Just talk to Yorktown supervisor Grace or "extreme conservative" (how fellow GOP described him this week in a LoHud article about his state senate primary opponent being "pro-abortion" [ed. note: hahahahahahaha]) councilman Murphy. We don't need your stinking "science." What do we want? Ball fields! When do we want them? All the time. Seriously, it's how we answer difficult questions around these parts. Holland Club demo performed by the Highway Dept has a DEC violation for a shoddy clean up? Build a ball field on it. How do you think we consistently turnout elite lacrosse and field hockey teams competing on the state level.

Thanks for sharing information about this important issue Courtney. I hope that a different routeRead More will be considered. This would be too dangerous and too expensive for Peekskill and Cortlandt. Our towns are likely to be stuck with a big bill for infrastructure repairs and for upgrading the emergency services (particularly the fire departments) which are not sufficient to deal with this expansion. Our taxes could wind up higher and this area wouldn't get any benefits from the gas. It's all going to New England.

Bill, understand your points, each viewpoint has its merits and its downsides. I don't feelRead More opposing the pipeline is strictly NIMBYISM, since in addition to the safety concerns presented in this article, which you propose can be mitigated, there is still the larger concern about the green house gases produced by the fracking sites (CO2 and Methane) and global warming. I feel that it is more prudent for the long-term good of our country (and planet) to focus more resources on developing renewable sources of energy rather than extracting further fossil fuels, even if they do burn somewhat cleaner relative to oil and gas, and even if we (the US) have an abundant supply to exploit.
Joe Stampf July 14, 2014 at 03:22 pm

Joe, This project is being vetted thoroughly and according to FERC guidelines. The misinformationRead More released by this anti-AIM group is bordering on criminal. There is the existing R.O,W. at Indian Point as we speak. This will upgrade the infrastructure at NO TAXPAYER COST and provide hundreds of Union Tradesmen great jobs. Stop with all the lies against this project! Yorktown lost out on millions in free public ball fields because of the misinformation coordinated by groups such as this. It is scary in today's world this can happen. The project is mainly take up and re-lay in Rockland and Westchester with compressor upgrades. If anything, people will be safer because of this project.

Hi Emilia How do you know I am Catholic? Making quite an assumption there, aren't you? You're theRead More one who went to Catholic school for 8 years - according to one of your posts. Guess none of the 10 Commandments stuck in your moral fiber.... Remember the one , " Thou shalt not kill ?" Oh, or that one for the new doctors - the Hippocratic Oath ? First of all - Do no HARM ? And you were a history teacher? Glad I wasn't in your dogmatic class where it must have been your way or the highway. You say that Dogfood and I are too emotional?? And then there's you, so very logical, aren't you? Now that you have said you were a history teacher . All I can say is Wow !and you STILL think wars are about religion? Jeez, where did you go to college? Those who don't study the past are doomed to repeat it....as you know, being a history teacher. Still waiting for your comments on the Mother Teresa quotes . Funny, how you just skipped over them. And chose instead to attack my logic with sarcasm? And also my personal story? What's your personal story ? Guess it's not germane to the subject. Mine was - that's why I shared it. And you chose to denigrate it. try looking up Rowe vs Wade and see where those people are now and what they now believe, it's very enlightening .But you don't ever seem to have any background info. The vast majority of abortions are a form of birth control. Don't believe me ? Look it up. You just seem to be really threatened by someone's OPINION ( and that's all it really is - in the scheme of things) that your belief is not a moral one and that it is ok to murder the unborn and you just go on and on....maybe you yourself have had an abortion. I don't know because you have not shared your story and you have every right not to. But I chose to ... And for you to say that the story took the place of logic is sad to me. Because you know that was not the reason I shared it.... So, in closing I have to say that we are all very lucky to have the right to disagree in public forums like this and no secret police are showing up at our doors. I am done sharing my thoughts. Hopefully I have planted some seeds that will take root and maybe just one of the women reading this will change her mind and offer her child up for adoption. And may that child grow up to invent something that will save lives, enrich our minds, ignite a passion in us, etc. And to those of you who got so angry , well I hope I made you at least think about your basic beliefs and I leave you with one last question ..... " what if you are wrong? " Take care everyone . PS I don't even live in Westchester County , and this email from The Harrison Patch just appeared in my email a few days ago. Go figure ......
Emilia July 14, 2014 at 05:18 pm
Ms Carullo: First of all, LEARN HOW TO READ! I never said that I was a history teacher. Actually,Read More I taught high school English. Let me address some of your statements. !) I never said the you were Catholic; 2) I do live by the 10 commandments, contrary to what you believe. You and I have a different opinion about the 5th one, obviously; 3) The Mother Teresa quote is not relevant to me or the issue. There are many wonderful, benevolent women out there who have unselfishly given of themselves, as she did, who don't share her views about "killing a child." And they are not necessarily steeped in such a religious background. You just chose one whose views came from her Catholic upbringing; 4) And again, let me point out that you chose to ignore my comment that you contradicted yourself when you said that, "Women should be responsible for their own bodies." That is faulty logic on your part. By the way, thank you for saying that I am "so very logical." I strive to be logical and, unlike you, I realize that my personal story is not relevant to the issue at hand. Lastly, I find it scary to think that you are any kind of teacher, the way you ramble on with emotional baggage and issues personal to you, infusing religion into debates where it does not belong, and throwing logic to the wind. I sincerely hope that you kept religion out of your classroom, if you teach in a public school.

LOL! Must be a whole lot of medical emergencies every day, every minute, eh? What is thisRead More "self-righteous" crap? Going over 80 MPH is just plain dangerous. You're quick to call others "self-righteous". But what about your attitude? Entitled. Speed-addicted? Affluenza? Enough name-calling. Let's find some common ground that's also safe to everyone on the road. Job pressures, productivity demands, stressful commutes, economic stress. We are all pressured. Don't take it out on each other. Give the 99% a break and tax the Koch Brothers and their ilk. Then maybe we'd all be a little more relaxed.

I have many times been behind someone in the left lane driving below, sometimes way below, the speedRead More limit. On passing, I have seen them on the phone, texting, reading a book, looking at a map, all sorts of crazy stuff. So yes, NY should have a slow-poke law. I drive I-95 often and CT should also have a slow-poke law. The left lane should only be for passing slower traffic, not passing the time of day. In places where there are only two lanes, plan ahead when coming to an on-ramp, move over to the left to allow traffic to enter, then move back when it's safe. Never drive below the speed limit in the left lane.
Steve Green July 18, 2014 at 11:19 am
Yes, Sean, I totally agree. The oblivious slow driver in the left lane is an obnoxious danger to allRead More other drivers. Another one: the obvious drunk driver who insists on staying in the left lane. Why? Isn't he/she just drawing more attention and possible arrest? But these are anecdotes. The bottom line is: we don't care very much about each other any more. Why do narcissists park in No Parking/No Standing zones, creating a traffic problem, when plenty of spots are readily available? There's a much bigger social/cultural issue here; we're all just complaining about the symptoms.

If you think Obamacare is capitalism you are stupider than I thought. It's not capitalism when theRead More government takes from a group to subsidize another group, that is pretty much the definition of socialism. On top of that the expanded medicare gives those in "need" completely free care. On top of that the role of government has expanded where they now force everyone to have insurance and control what is covered and for how much through regulation. Who do you think pays for the subsidies and medicare/medicaid? I understand the difference between the VA and Obamacare and your kind generally wants VA style HC for everyone in terms of single payer. What do you think is the cause of the VA problems? Just a few employees? the veterans? can you find a way to blame the rich and successful for that one? I'll fill you in, it is that it is completely controlled by the government which consistently lead to systemic failure in pretty much everything they take on. BTW I'm completely fine with paying taxes for roads, bridges, cops, firefighters, etc and when the government can do that right. . .maybe they can start to do other things. . .first they have to do that right.
