<p>The Yorktown Chief of Police is Daniel M. McMahon. He has been with the Yorktown Police Department for over 25 years. On April 5, 2005, he was promoted to the position of Chief of Police. </p>
<p>Prior to his promotion, Chief McMahon served as Lieutenant - Operations Officer. He was responsible for department training, inspections, evaluations, personnel management and for the Chief's duties in his absence.  </p> <p>He has previously served at Lieutenant- Patrol Division Commander and was responsible for the supervision of five patrol squads, as well as the traffic, detective and juvenile units. </p> <p>From 2002 to 2004 he served as Lieutenant- Staff Division Commander, where he was responsible for the Communications Unit, maintenance of the Department's communication equipment, Records Unit and the Community Service/Animal Warden. </p> <p>Police Chief Daniel McMahon began his law enforcement career in 1973 with the Port Authority Police Department. In 1981, he transferred to the Yorktown Police Department as a police officer performing patrol duties. In 1986, Chief McMahon was promoted to Sergeant supervising patrol squads before becoming the Staff Sergeant in 1992. </p> <p>He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the City University of New York, John Jay College and an Associate Degree in Police Science from SUNY Farmingdale.</p>
