<p>Before the opening of the Yorktown Heights campus in the 70's, the Puntam/Northern Westchester BOCES Tech Center programs were held in at the Fox Meadow campus in Yorktown, the Putnam Center in Carmel and the Triangle Shopping Center in Yorktown Heights. </p>
<p>By the 1970's, numerous programs were instituted to serve local schools in the Putnam and Westchester Counties. Student vocational programs were offered in eight occupational areas, including graphic arts, auto technology, electricity, heating and air conditioning, construction technology, secretarial, data-processing and machine industries.</p> <p>In 1970, an adult education program was added, which was followed by a partnership with Westchester Community College. Currently, each year the program serves more than 5,000 adults.</p> <p>Today, many programs are available at the Tech Center for students to develop career skills and earn college credit. There are 20 career and technical education courses in the areas of business, engineering, natural and agricultural sciences, arts and humanities, health, and human and public services. Teenagers can receive academic credit in core subjects such as English, math, science and social studies, in addition to college credit in any number of the Tech Center's programs.</p> <p>Clubs, competitions and honor societies are a part of the Tech Center experience. Students typically attend the Tech Center for one or two years, for two or four hours each day. Graduates have the opportunity to receive a Career and Technical Education Certificate or a Regents Diploma with a Technical Endorsement.</p> <p>51 percent of Tech Center graduates go on to colleges or technical institutions. 42 percent continue working in their field of study. </p> <p>There are also adult education services offered at the The Career and Technical Education Center. There are more than 300 day and evening courses available for adults, as well as free literacy programs.</p>
