<p>Putnam Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Services (PNW BOCES) provides a vast array of programs to school districts, families, students and local communities. The agency was established in 1948 and underwent a growth spurt over the years, which resulted in the establishment of the Vocational Education School in Yorktown in 1962. Putnam and Northern Westchester BOCES merged in 1963.</p>
<p>Less than a decade later, the Madden Outdoor Education Center in Kent, N.Y. was donated to BOCES. The parcel includes a 120-acre lot where various outdoor education programs, including Walden-in-the-Woods, are offered to both middle school special education students.</p> <p>Additional cosmetology and culinary arts programs over the years have continued to expand the education offerings at PNW BOCES. Today, PNW BOCES is a recognized leader in special education. Based on education trends, funding and the needs of its schools and districts served, PNW BOCES will continue to grow and evolve accordingly to serve the community. </p> <p> </p>
