Intense Play Marks the YSA Leagues Quarter and Semi-Final Playoff Rounds

NY Bada Bing Meets “The Kids”

On Sunday NY Bada Bing was victorious in their quarter-final game, eliminating Who’s on First in a thriller, with the final score of 7 − 6. Both teams played their top game, with some great plays both on offense and defense.

Coming off their win in the early game, NY Bada Bing faced the undefeated Comeback Kids in the semi-final match. The Kids outscored Bada Bing 15 − 7, continuing their dominance in the league.

Quoting Kids captain, Tom Jordan: “It  appears that ‘The Comeback Kids’ are afraid someone is going to take away their uniforms. In the first half of the season they never needed a comeback and were criticized for always being in front. Well, they corrected that and had a comeback again on Sunday. They were down 2 - 0 in the first inning but made a comeback with 6 runs in the bottom of the first and went on to win 15 -7 against New York Bada Bing to bring their record to 11 - 0. If they are worried about the “title police” modifying their name, the focus should probably be on the Kids rather than the Comeback.

Gary Aurigemma had 5 hits, 2 walks and scored 6 runs which is great, but less impressive when you realize there are two Gary Aurigemma’s on the Kids team! New York Bada Bing never gave up and were  a delightful team to get to know and play against. Al Morales held the Kids to 1 run after the third inning but his finer achievement was pulling together this exciting league from nothing.”

Fahgettaboutit Comes From Behind to Win

I’d Hit That and Fahgettaboutit played an exciting game in their semi-final round, with Fahgettaboutit winning 12 − 10.

Fahgettaboutit captain Dave Balzano shared his post-game thoughts: “This game reminded me of the way we started [the season] slowly…I hoped we'd eradicate that trend, but…we fell behind quickly 5 - 0. I guess this team doesn't like to do things easy! We responded by doing the little things to get back in the game with some timely hitting, and putting up 12 runs…I'd Hit That [is] a good match for us, and gave us all they had Sunday…They are very worthy competitors, and…will be a tough game for anybody next year.

Losing our regular short stop Dave Rocco created a dilemma, but luckily Toussaint was able to fill in at third base…Ron didn't get rattled, and pitched well after our early 5 - 0 deficit, allowing our bats the chance to get back into the game and take the lead…This game lived up to the kind of intensity that a playoff game ought to offer…hats off to I'd Hit That for making it a tough win, closing the gap to 12 - 10. The final play was admittedly a controversial call that we benefited from...

I’d be remiss to not acknowledge the efforts of the WHOLE TEAM as we got hitting and clutch play from players throughout the lineup. Once this team started to gel, we developed the type of chemistry that is truly inspiring. When somebody mentioned game ball I couldn't and wouldn't single out 1 single player—we all played our part in a tough game. We'll need a similar effort and perhaps more against The Comeback Kids...The Comeback Kids can make you pay for any error...we're going to keep things close and hopefully pull off what would amount to the upset of the season if we can defeat The Comeback Kids. Though I'm a Jets fan, I'd be an idiot or clueless to guarantee a victory like Joe Namath did many years ago, but I'll say this much, Fahgettaboutit will be ready, and will leave it all out on the field this coming Sunday, and collectively we look forward to that challenge!”

The staff at YSA leagues congratulates Fahgettaboutit and The Comeback Kids on advancing to the final round. The championship game will be played on Sunday, September 29 at 10 AM at Navajo Field #4.
