The Home Guru Talks with Fireman Joe about Fire Safety at Home

Especially during the holiday season, when most home fires occur, it is important to be aware of fire safety tips that could make all the dfference in an emergency. Here are the basics.

With the horrible tragedy of the home fire during the holiday season in Stamford, CT,  I was reminded that I had not checked my own smoke alarm in some time.

I invited my friend "Fireman Joe" Pascarelli over to talk about fire safety in the home and when we checked my main smoke detector at the top of the stairs on my second-floor landing I was distressed to find that it was dead as a doornail. We took the time to install a new battery and, further, to place three more smoke detectors in critical areas of my home.

I had already shot some video of Joe presenting his fire safety show at Van Cortlandtville Elementary School in Mohegan Lake and, in this video, I combine his tips to kids with some adult talk about fire safety in the home.

Don't wait another day to check your smoke detectors. It could just make all the difference in an emergency.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
